About Shibam Coffee Atlanta
An upscale, halal-certified Yemeni coffee shop in Alpharetta, rooted in centuries of coffee heritage and built for the North Fulton community.
Our Story
Shibam Coffee Atlanta opened on North Point Parkway with a simple goal: bring the coffee culture of Yemen to Alpharetta the way it's meant to be experienced — unhurried, generous, and rooted in tradition. We are part of the Shibam Coffee Co. family, but built specifically for this community, in this city, for the neighbors who walk through our door every day.
Long before "specialty coffee" was a category, Yemeni families were roasting beans over open flame, steeping qishr with ginger and cinnamon, and pouring qahwa for guests as an act of welcome. We grew up around that ritual, and we wanted Alpharetta to have a place where it lives on — not as a museum piece, but as something you can order, sip, and share on a Tuesday afternoon.
That's why our menu holds both worlds at once. You'll find Mufawar and Sana'ani Coffee brewed the traditional way alongside a Pistachio Latte made with real pistachio sauce, and an Adeni Chai poured next to a Matcha Latte. Every recipe is treated with the same care, whether it's a thousand years old or invented in our kitchen last season.
More than anything, we built Shibam Coffee Atlanta to be a gathering place — for study sessions and first dates, family visits and community events, the quiet morning regulars and the Friday-night crowd staying until close. Halal certified, organic Yemeni beans, and a warm room: that's the whole idea.
Yemen: Origin of Coffee
Yemen is widely regarded as the birthplace of coffee as the world drinks it. While the coffee plant likely originated in Ethiopia, it was Yemeni farmers in the terraced mountains of regions like Khawlan who first cultivated it at scale, and Yemeni traders who shipped roasted beans out through the Red Sea port of Mokha — the city that lent its name to coffee itself.
Khawlani beans, grown in those same highland terraces, are still considered some of the most prized coffee in the world for their dense, complex flavor — a product of high altitude, mineral-rich volcanic soil, and centuries of careful cultivation passed down through generations of farming families.
Yemeni coffee culture also gave the world qahwa, the spiced coffee ceremony built around hospitality, and qishr, a tea brewed not from the coffee bean itself but from the dried husk of the coffee cherry, traditionally simmered with ginger and cinnamon. Cardamom appears throughout — in Mufawar, in Sana'ani Coffee, in Adeni Chai — not as decoration, but as a defining flavor of the region.
Underneath all of it is hospitality. In Yemeni homes, coffee is rarely made for yourself alone; it's brewed for whoever walks through the door, served before business is discussed, and offered as a sign of respect. That's the culture we try to carry into every cup we pour in Alpharetta.
